Spotting and Solving Problems From a Distance

You have probably seen footage on television of new police tactics in catching suspects on the run, more specifically how police helicopters hover over towns using cameras and high tech equipment to keep track of persons on the ground. These helicopters are used as nerve centres of operations, tracking moving or concealed targets, and directing the forces below who may have no visual help of their own in capturing their quarry.

In similar cases, a business must have the same power to view things from a far to gauge problems and foresee obstacles. Risk management is part of any Managing Director’s job and most businesses have a clear set of rules that need to be followed to minimise the risks that the business may encounter, but as in the case of the helicopter, how adaptable are the risk management tools at the MD’s disposal?

If it is dark, a helicopter can switch to infra red and trace heat signatures. If the helicopter is too high to make out perceptive detail, it can hover closer and if the quarry moves, it can re-locate to a new position. Business problems are just as manoeuvrable as the nimblest criminal in that you cannot expect them to appear when you want them, and a business needs to be adaptable in a three dimensional way in the same way as the helicopter in identifying, hovering and analysing problems when they occur so that you can direct your forces on the ground to apprehend and solve those problems.

The flexibility of SymVolli as a system is that you can set up reports and business intelligence features that give you that aerial view of the business as and when new situations arise. Because the system can be configured to any key performance indicator, not just the normal parameters such as sales targets but can be configured to most business scenarios such as territory growth, market penetration, new to existing clients etc you can get an overall picture of the company as a whole not just elements of it. In developing that picture you can then spot the trends and performance of the business as well as the problems.

Spotting things from a distance gives time to prepare for the ways in which to tackle problems. Dealing with them when they are upon you or after the fact is too late.
