Bottom line the MD is looking for some basic things. What is the revenue of the company? What is the profitability of the company? You don't want to see that the same levels of business are being maintained operating with three client companies, when last year you were operating with ten. You might want to see the company growing in the market place by seeing how many new companies you are dealing with.

But, that might not be good enough. You might want to see what market sectors, or what designated companies set out in the marketing plan is being won.

An MD isn't an MD for nothing, he wants to see an overview of the business so that he can see scenarios building whether good or bad and from that he wants to drill down and find out how that scenario has come about. The MD is doing so many things that he doesn't have time to qualify or sift information in detail.
